  • Affidavit of Support

    Hey guys,

I am currently getting the paperwork done for applying for a green card though mariage. I have a question about the affidavit of support. My wife and I basically started to get serious jobs in january but were in college before. I have filled taxes the years before because I was working as a TA in college but was barely making anything and my wife was in the same boat.

What documents shall we provide ? I feel like providing last year's taxes would definitely not help the application since we were probably making under the poverty line. But since January we are making good money and can support ourselves. What list of documents shall I provide ?

    Thanks for your help.

If you guys have full-time job and you should've received offer letter from Employer which can prove that you guys fall above poverty line. If not, try to find joint-sponsor. You'll need to submit I-864(from petitioner) - if petitioner income is still below poverty line, other spouse can pitch-in using I-864A (as the household member co-sponsor).

Yes we do have offer letters with our salary and we can show pay stubs from the previous months. My question is, do we have to provide W2's from previous years when we were making little close to nothing ?

Also, when filling form i-864 in part 6, when they say "Income you are using from any peson who was counted in your household size. Can I , as the intending immigrant, also put my income as part of the household income ?

      Thanks
