RFE- Marriage Certificate in foreign language but I do not have one

Hello all,
I have applied for immigration for my wife and I got a RFE to submit our marriage certificate in the foreign language. We got married outside US, but our marriage certificate has local language and its translation in English side by side on one single document. I do not have a separate marriage certificate in foreign language since both languages are on the same document. Please help and thanks a lot for your time and consideration.

1. Submit a statement with copy of the marriage cert drawing attention to the multi-language format on the certificate (which is more common these days, especially in Europe.
2. Open up your wallet and spend about $70 to have a professional English translation done to avoid any further complications.

I had used multi-language civil documents from Turkey with no problem, but your best choice is to avoid argument and provide exactly what is requeted by USCIS.

Thanks for your reply. They are not asking for English translation, they need the marriage certificate in foreign language. I guess they are thinking the certificate i submitted was translation.

Please read my earlier reply. You have two choices to satisfy this RFE. Either try to debate the legitimacy of the two-language version you submitted or get a translation done. Average cost for an English-language certified translation of a single document is $40 - $80.

The marriage certificate translated copy given by a legal advisor is in English language. As per law, the local language for migration of such legal documents is English and not any other language. I guess if the Certificate is in English, the registrar's stamp will have English as well as the local language. It's absolutely legal to submit. This depends on the country of the beneficiary. Some countries will provide civil documents with both regional language and English on same document. Other countries will make available documents in English, but these are sometimes not clearly understood as original civil documents or just good translations.

If a civil document has both local language and English on same page, and USCIS or the NVC refuses to accept it as a credible source document, or wants a separate English translation, it's easier to provide a separate English translation than to argue with USCIS or the NVC.
