  • Filing for unmarried daughter over 21

I was recently granted usa citizenship, but I petitioned for my daughter(unmarried and over 21) while I was a green card holder in 2010. I checked the visa bulletin and the F2B status is one year ahead of the F1. I was under the impression that when I got the citizenship the petition would go faster than when I had the green card.

What are the processing times for green card holder filing for unmarried child over 21 versus a citizen doing the same.

Should I update my status with uscis as a citizen or should I let in continue as is. How exactly does it work i.e. is the visa bulletin always correct

The variances between F1 and F2B differ by country, but the F2B is generally a tad faster than the F1. Your expectation that citizenship would speed up the process was simply wrong. You need to submit a copy of your Naturalization cert, along with a request to retain the F2B status (which is an option).

Caution your daughter to not marry, or everything would change drastically with her processing wait time.

The child will be eligible for a derivative visa.
