Immigrant visa Indian born child (Parents GCs)

Hello,

We both are (self and spouse) are legal permanent resident (Green card holders) of U.S. We are Indian citizens. We are temporarily staying in India and will be returning to US in the month of Apr/May 2006. We have Indian born daughter ( born on Jan 2005) and would like to take her with us to United States. I want to know the procedure for applying immigrant visa for her. The website contains wealth of information but if you can point me specific articles to read, that will be great. Particularly I want to know waiting time to get this immigrant visa. Would it be faster to get 'non immigrant visa' and then adjust her status after reaching U.S?

I was told that Children whose age is less than two year and accompanying her mother first time to US' can apply for immigrant visa at the port of entry. Is this information true?

FYI, we both currently reside in Bangalore .

Thanks for your reply.

Could you please explain detailed procedures. When I contacted consulate in Chennai, they told me to contact nearest immigration service center. What I am not clear is

- Am I expected to file I-130 and show affadivat of support?
- Will I get Visa immigration number and have to wait for 'adjustment of status'?
- Basically how soon I get GC for my kid.
