  • My son is US Citizen and has Down Syndrome

    Hi Everyone,

My twin boys (aged 10) were born in the US and one of them has down syndrome, they both have US passports/citizenship.

Due to my one sons Down Syndrome he is mentally disabled and will never be in a situation that he will be able to support/look after himself.

My wife and I are not US citizens and as family we're currently living in South Africa. The political situation in our country is deteriorating at serious pace, race based employment policies makes finding work for "non affirmative action" men virtually impossible and furthermore there is a total lack of state support for disabled people. We are now at the point where we need to ensure the well-being ad safety of our children.

I understand that with the Family Based Greencard our children will eventually be able to sponsor us once they are 21. However with my sons disability he will never be in a situation to sponsor us. I understand that his twin brother is normal and should eventually be able to sponsor us, however tt the current rate of deterioration time is not on our side .

Outside of waiting until his brother is 21 are there options we can pursue?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Regards
