Name Change issue

Hi,

When my sister filed my petition in 2003 I didn't had a passport.

The name on the petition was:

First Name: Surjeet Kaur
Last Name: Sandhu

Now, my petition has been approved and I am in the process of preparing documents for VISA.

During the waiting period, I got my passport and the name on that is different than petition. It has my husband's name associated with my first name.

Name on passport:

First Name: Surjeet Kaur Ravinder Singh
Last Name: Sandhu

Will it be a problem?? Should I get the passport changed or should I just get an affidavit?

Please advise.

No. In Maharashtra ( an Indian state), where you fill first name, last name and husband's name(in case of married female) or father's name(in case of children). The automatically associate the additional name with the first name of the applicant.

I suggest that you should fill your name as
First Name: Surjeet
Middle Name: Kaur Ravinder Singh
Last Name: Sandu

OR if you don't like it, get it fixed at the passport office which may be as easy.
In the "other names used" box, list "Surjeet Kaur Sandu"

If your name on passport does not match on the visa issued, then you may have to go through some trouble at the Airport when you arrive in US.
