  • Choosing an agent

Hey guys, so I am the petitioner and I have received the NVC Welcome Letter (PAOSF). The first step tells me to choose an agent. I understand that that can be me or literally anyone. But what does the agent have to do? Are they easy tasks?

All NVC communications, like emails or mails will go to the agent.

Your agent should be based in the U.S., with a valid email and U.S. mailing address.

Not necessarily. I'm the agent of our case and I am not based in US and do not have any US mailing address. I still receive all the communications through email.

Using an agent outside the U.S. is okay, if he can be easily reached by email. But an agent in the U.S. is the better option for faster contact when sending documents to the NVC or paying the two NVC fees online from a U.S. bank account checking or savings account. Generally, when agents outside the U.S. are selected or given by default (when no agent is selected), there is a greater chance of problems in maintaining contact with the NVC. In your case, for example, when you allowed yourself to be named agent, were you aware of the requirement of paying the two NVC fees with a U.S. bank account or mailing the fee checks to the NVC with a U.S. check or money order?

Yes I was aware of that. I have gone through all the steps in NVC website before starting the process. We paid the fees through our uncle's bank account and it worked. My uncle is in US. The sole purpose of choosing an agent is to receive communication from NVC. Once the email id is registered with NVC, they will email all information. It doesn't matter who pays the fees as long as it comes from a US bank account.
