F1 getting sponsored by children, what happens to F2 dependent?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently on an F1 student visa with my son as an F2 dependent. He will be starting college this Fall 2016 and is applying for adjustment of status to F1. However, my daughter just got her certificate of naturalization 3/19/16 and will be sponsoring me for a family-based green card.

Once this application is submitted and/or approved, what happens to my son's F2 status if he hasn't yet received F1 approval?
