  • Marriage - waiting time for spouse GC

The boy is a green card holder living in US. The girl lives in India.

If they get married today, and the girl applies for GC, what is a reasonable total duration before she can come to the US ?

While GC is being processed, will she be able to obtain a tourist visa for few weeks to visit US ?

Processing time for a spousal visa is about 10+ months.

The girl's application for a visitor visa during the waiting period is likely to be denied because of "expressed intent to immigrate" with the submitted spousal petition.

But I've heard many say it is 1.5 years after I-130 is approved, which itself could take few months.. no?

The normal range for spousal visa interviews (from submittal of petition to USCIS) is 10+ months, up to about 12 months. Anyone taking 1.5 years did something wrong or did not follow up with needed steps in a timely manner. My information is based on recent experience, not hearsay.

I found this 'Visa Bulletin' -http://travel.state.gov/contenthttps://www.immihelp.com/usa-visas/en/law-and-policy/bulletin/2016/visa-bulletin-for-march-2016.html
it says Sep 2014 is the current date for India F2A .. that means a 1.5 year gap, so if they get married and apply today, they'll definitely be granted by Sept 2017, correct ?

I thought the petitioner was a U.S. citizen. Now that it is obvious he is a Green Card holder, the waiting period is closer to two years. Sorry that I didn't read your original post correctly.

              OK.

Also, is it possible for girl to visit US on tourist visa while GC being processed ?
