  • US Child living abroad who wants to study in US, but needs non-immigrant parents supp

MY child is a 17 year old US citizen who is living abroad. He would like to return to the US next year to continue his studies, but does not want to move to the US without his parents who are non-immigrants. As parents we had a green card many years ago. I read recently (can't find the article I looked at) that US law allows for the child to return to the US and provides that the parents, who need to support him while he studies, can join him in the US by obtaining a green card prior to arrival in the US. As I understood it, the US does not want the fact that a US child has non-immigrant parents, to be a barrier to that child returning to the US. So to remove that barrier and to keep the families together, there is provision made in law that we can support our child in the US while he continues his studies. Is this true and where can I read more about this law and provision in law?
