Do we really need a lawyer to start the family based GC process

Do we really need a lawyer to submit the I-130 for family based (F1 Preference) category? Is there anyone here who went thru the entire process without a lawyer? The reason I am asking is the process seems to be pretty straight forward for family based as opposed to employment based GC.

i submit my application without a lawyer; unless u want to waste $1500. the good thing about USCIS they will mail u back anything ur missing. i did my application myself with lawyer or organizations
