  • Traveling Right After Visa Interview

    Hello friends

My husband is sponsoring me to move to the US with him and my visa interview is on the 27th. I am Canadian and constantly cross the border to visit my husband for a few days. This time around, I will be traveling to New York to visit him then we are driving together to Montreal for my interview. Our plan is to drive back to New York together after the interview because it's his mom's birthday. I guess my question is, once I pass the interview, do they take my passport away in order to process the visa? I would need to know ASAP because otherwise I won't have any documentation to cross the border on the same day.

    Thank you!

no they will not hold ur passport. the green card issue isn't a visa stamp. it will take the several days or weeks to mail u the green card.

      Issuance of Visa

      Hi.
When I had my interview, also in Montreal, they did indeed keep my passport.
I got it back in less than 2 weeks, along with my Immigration package.

If your Visa is approved, they will keep your passport to put the Visa in.
If you application is denied, they will return your passport.

Your GC will be processed after you pay your Immigration Fee (mine was $165 USD), and only once you cross the border.

      I hope this helps.
      Good luck with your interview!!!
