  • Applying for spousal greencard, need guidance!

Hi! I'm trying to file for a green card. My husband is a US citizen. I'm currently on a E3 work visa and I'm working while my husband is unemployed. His parents is OK with being our sponsors if I'm not allowed to sponsor myself.

We're trying to fill in everything ourselves. Is there good info somewhere to walk us through all the steps, and maybe a checklist anywhere for all the items we need (like photocopies of passports...etc?) ? I'm paranoid that I'm going to forget something when I send the documents off.

I'm completely new to this and am bad with forms... Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm currently living in NYC, How long does the process take normally? We want to go overseas early next year for a vacation, but we're not sure whether the green card will be processed yet....

    Thanks in Advance!!!!

Hi! I recently petitioned for my husband, and for all the forms, there are instruction sheets provided by USCIS. If you go on each USCIS form page, there is also a download available for the instructions. It's tedious, but that's what I did.

I made a checklist while I was filing of all the "accessory" paperwork to the forms, and I'm listing it here for you below.

Additionally, I know you said your in-laws are willing to sponsor you since your husband is unemployed, but when I petitioned for my husband unemployed, USCIS said that I STILL had to fill out an I-864 form (for sponsoring) since I was the petitioner. Just a little heads up, because that was information I had never read elsewhere.

I'm not a lawyer, and I'm not intending to give legal advice in any way, I'm simply speaking from my experiences and giving you the resources I used to put together my petition. I'd advise you to look over all of the instructions and confirm this information, especially since you're on a different visa than my husband was on when I petitioned. You may require different forms or less than what I have listed. Best of luck!

Applying for spousal greencard, need guidance!

My husband and I filed from NY too he is USC all forms has the instructions and are easy to fill out, if you have any question in the process ask here, based on other cases that I checked is taking around 6 months for NYC Case.

The filing fee for Form I-485 is $985.
An additional biometrics services fee of $85 is required for applicants ages 14 to 78.

        I130 $420

          Thank you! This helps immensely!
sorry for the late response, I thought I would be sent email notifications when I got a response, but for some reason I didn't

Just printed out your checklist to check off

Also you mentioned that you sponsored your husband, the thing is my husband is petitioning for me, and he's unemployed, but I earn enough for both of us on my work Visa... how does that work?
