Fee for EAD while adjusting status after having EAD for OPT

Hi everyone,

I'm currently filing my green card application after I married a US citizen and I'm a little confused if I'm supposed to pay for the EAD from form I-765.
I entered the US as a F-1 student and had an EAD for my OPT time, which expired last month.
I first wanted to set a checkmark for "Renewal" on the work authorization application but in the instructions it says that it's only considered renewing if it's under the same category. I'm now in category (c)(9), adjusting status, which is different from the status that I was in when I applied for the OPT EAD.

Under fees it says if I'm applying for an initial EAD, I will have to pay the fee.
If I'm category (c)(9) and renewing my EAD, I don't have to pay.

My conclusion is that I will have to pay.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

if ur applying for AOS through marriage work permit and travel document are free. u r applying for permission to accept job not renewing. renew is only if ur extending opt or u already got work permit from AOS application and for some reason u haven't gotten approve for green card.
