  • I-130 (7 years later)

    Hi everyone,

My mother (US Citizen) applied for a visa for me (I-130) in November 2009. Two years later, I received an email saying that the I 130 form has been approved (
On October 5, 2011, we approved your Form I-130, Immigrant Petition for Relative, Fiance(E), or Orphan).

No news since then Is this normal?

My mother applied for me as an unmarried daughter, but i got married this year. Will this affect the application?

By the way, I live in Peru.

    Thank you!!!

The time frame is indeed normal. As for you getting married after she submitted your I-130, I believe that this is something you must notify USCIS before proceeding. I say this because when you apply for your husband to immigrate to the USA, there the discrepancy can cause issues. Good luck

Well the wait for an unmarried son or daughter is 6-7 years. So yes, the wait is normal. However, since you got married you now are in a different visa petition preference: married son or daughter of US citizen. The wait now is about 12 years! You really should consult a lawyer because the wait difference is large and you were very close to applying for a greencard already!
