I am trying to figure out whether I would be capable of filling out an Affidavit of Support without a co-sponsor for my girlfriend if I were to marry her. I am a US citizen and she is not. My situation is a little strange because I am a student and not employed throughout the year. I will try to lay out a timeline of the money I am expecting to earn.
I might make $35,000 in the summer of 2017 over a ten week period. I do not expect any additional income throughout the rest of the year, and that position would only last ten weeks. Upon completion of that summer work, I could potentially receive a full time job offer that will begin in October 2018 which would be contingent on me completing school.
I am wondering if there is any way I could sponsor a spouse/fiance visa prior to beginning a full-time job in October 2018. I am sure the most logical thing for me to do would be to get a co-sponsor or wait, but I'm trying to figure out if there's any way I could fill out an Affidavit of Support in 2017 if I have earned ~$35,000 during the summer and I have a job offer (again, it would be contingent on completion of school) for 2018 in hand.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
