  • Change of Citizenship

    Hi,

My brother filed f4 visa for me and my family in the month of November 2005 and it looks like couple of years more for PD to be matured. When my brother filed, I was an Indian citizen while my present status has changed (almost a year). I am an Australian now (only me and not family members).

Questions i have, Should this be informed to the concerned authorities (USCIS/Immigration) in US?
Would it benefit in any way if this is informed (like speeding up the process) or will it be a disadvantage if the citizenship has changed?

It would be very helpful if someone could throw some light into this.

    Thanks in Advance

I hope there would be someone knowledgeable enough or do have the courtesy to reply to my query.

    Thanks

      Hi,

We were in almost same kind of situation except we became Canadians and the visa is F3. You can always write to them to inform about the change of citizenship but I'm not sure if it works. We tried several times before NVC started processing our case but the change was not registered. However, we again informed them after receiving the welcome letter (it's a letter from NVC mentioning that they have started processing the case and asking to submit further documents) and that's when our change of citizenship got registered with them. We also added our daughter to the case after receiving the welcome letter.
Though all our current information were updated with NVC, our case chargeability is still India. So I do not believe the change of citizenship has any impact on the case. at least it didn't expedite/delayed our's. However, now we do not have to go to Mumbai for the visa interview as NVC changed our local consulate to Montreal from Mumbai. They have also changed our NVC case number, the intial BMB is now replaced by MTL. But please note that in our case the whole family has moved to Canada from India. Hope this information helps you. Good luck.
