  • Handwriting or Typing? and barcode?

    Hi all,

When filling out various forms such as I-485, I-130, I-765, I-864, G325A, etc., is that ok to handwrite everything using black ink & capital letters, rather than type and print out? I have previously requested forms from USCIS over the phone and they sent me plenty of blank forms in the mail.
Another question is, I see some description of 'barcode' on the forms when searching immigration issues online but I'm confused. Are these barcodes on the forms NEEDED in the application? What if I don't have any barcode on my forms?
    Please advise. Thanks!

    Suggest you to type them..

While they are ok with handwritten applications, I would suggest you download PDFs and type down all the info in case of misreadings.
Of course, leave the signatures out and sign them after thoroughly checked.

It is best not to handwrite it to avoid any possible unlucky event.
Whether it's miswritten or misread, each mistake might cost you a lot of energy and significant time to correct it.

PDFs are easy to find. Throw their name into google.
The first result will be a direct link to www.USCIS.gov
For example, I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status.
    Google just " i485 "

Thank you NathanC for the details. I will do as suggested:-)
When needing extra typing space in certain cells can I just type 'please see inserted page' and type everything on that extra inserted page?
Also any idea about the barcode thing?
      Thanks in advance!

Interesting! GreenTara, this is an interesting topic for me. As for me, handwritten or printed text is an eternal question. Thanks for the recommendations. I want to say that this source https://www.typingservice.org/blog/t...ertifications/ is simply a storehouse of relevant and useful information. Here I read about the 5 best typing certifications worth your time and investment this year. By the way, do you know what a printing house certificate is? I know now. So, the blog on this site is simply top.
