  • have not received parent's green card

It has been over three months since my mom arrived in US and I have not received the green card. The website states that I should also get a letter first and I did not get that either. How long does it take nowadays to receive green card?

I called the customer service and it is asking for a receipt no. I only have the case no which starts with BMB. Where can I find the receipt no so I can enquire with USCIS?

Did u pay $165.00 (Green card) fee before your mother came to US. If u did, then at time of payment you would have got the payment receipt and USCIS needs that number to track the GC.If u did not pay that fee then u should pay it now,so your mother can get the green card.

Good you will get the GC in two to three months time now.Even tough immigrant visa that your mother got from US embassy says that this visa is your TEMPORARY I-551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR 1 YEAR" upon entry to US. But If I am NOT wrong then I believe it is only valid for ONE time entry to US and you cannot travel again on it.

But it will be good to check it with your local USCIS office in case she needs to travel before she get her actual GC.

The immigrant visa is a single use visa so it no longer exists. However, upon entry the visa automatically turned into an I-551 (green card) valid for one year from the date of entry. So what they have in their hand right now is a green card that they can use to work and/or travel into or out of the US as many times as they like.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Correct. I just checked and it is printed on the visa that it is valid for one year upon arrival. So I guess it means she can travel back and forth up to one year from the date of arrival. I only need the GC when she comes back to US after one year.
