Hi all. My wife is working on her I-864 for her father's green card application. She has filled out her I-864 and meets the income requirement by a few thousand dollars. She has 2 different sources of self employment income, one she can prove based on last years 1099 as well as ongoing payments/bank statements. The other she just started about 2 months ago so could show her contract and a few recent payments. The way I see it we have 3 options:
1) Keep it simple and leave her I-864 just showing her self employment income, which meets the requirements.
2) Add some of our assets to her I-864 as additional proof of her/our worth and ability to support her father. This would be fairly easy to do, but the instructions seem to clearly state that we should NOT fill out that section if we have met the income requirements.
3) In addition to her I-864 I could fill out an I-864a and add my income to the equation. Again, I'm not sure if the NVC would appreciate the extra paperwork involved since she already meets the basic requirements. The other reason I am hesitant to do this is that I plan on leaving my job at some point in the near future, and don't want my employment change to complicate matters. However, if it is definitely the only safe route, I would suck it up and stay at my job as long as possible.
So what do you all recommend? Will the NVC look for a reasonable buffer above the 125% poverty line, or will they see that she has met the basic requirement and move on? My first preference is to keep it at option 1, but obviously we want to do whatever we need to to get the application through.
