  • Question About I-130 - 14b

My dad got his green card through the dv lottery, so my mom got hers from his status at the same time. Apparently if my dad files the I-130 for me, he also needs to show their marriage certificate, which is not with them right now. So we thought my mom could file it for me, but question 14b got us confused a little bit.

It says "Did you gain permanent residency through marriage to a US citizen or lawful permanent resident". It sounds more like, it's asking if my mom and dad got married AFTER my dad got his green card which is not true. What should we say here? Yes or No?

Also do you think if there is any down side of a DV2 category green card holder filing the form as opposed to DV1 filing it?

    Thanks in advance

The answer is No. The question is only for people petitioned in a spouse category.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

      Thanks for the quick response!

Also, I'm living in one of Chicago's Suburbs and apparently the USCIS office I need to send the form, money order, etc. is located in downtown Chicago. Is it possible that I go there and hand the documents to them which would eliminate the delay and the possibility of getting lost in the mail?

Edit: Also question 22 is asking if I will apply for adjustment of status. I'm in the US now and I can apply for it when I will be selected, but is it asking if I will be applying it along with I-130?
