  • Marriage based greencard after asylum

We have a very obscure case I think. My husband has been in the US since 1998 with an approved asylum case. He has never left America since coming here. We are inching up on our greencard interview in March and see no reason that it will not be approved. We have been married for 5 years, we have a child together, and he has been otherwise eligible for the last 18ish years. My question is whether or not, after nearly 20 years away from home and also hopefully with a marriage based greencard if he could travel home to visit his family as there now is really no more fear of persecution because he is 20 years older and looks like a completely different person! I am also wondering if it would be okay for him to renew his long expired home country passport since the greencard is marriage based. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
