  • What's after adjustment of status?

    Hi,

It will soon be 2 years since my wife got her green card after adjustment of status.
What's the next step towards her becoming a US citizen?
Can someone please point me in the right direction?
    Thank you,

    Faraz

Well first, is she a conditional permanent resident (with a 2-year card) or a non-conditional permanent resident (with a 10-year card)? If she is a conditional permanent resident then she needs to apply for Removal of Conditions in the 90 day period before the 2 years ends.

For naturalization, if you're a US citizen and she has been married to you from before she became a permanent resident, then she can apply for naturalization under the 3-year rule when she's been a permanent resident for 3 years (so about a year from now); she can submit the application up to 90 days early. If not, she can apply for naturalization under the 5-year rule when she's been a permanent resident for 5 years; she can submit the application up to 90 days early. Of course naturalization is optional and she can decide to do it later or not at all.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
