  • I-485 Green card interview information

    Hi guys,

I am writing this post just to give you guys information about the interview.
Me and my wife had our interview yesterday (03/28/2017) at Albuquerque DHS office. I am the intending immigrant. Our interview was scheduled at 8:05am. We got there at 7:45am. Went in and showed our ids with the appointment letter. They sat us down in the waiting area. We got our turn around 8:10am. Our officer was really nice lady. She was very friendly. She took us to her office. She checked both of our ids and my Ead. As soon as we sat down she asked us to stand up and take an oath. She started with confirming my wife's information on I-130. Our officer was very friendly and she was also talking to us about other stuff. Also it seemed like she had all of our original documents that I sent to Chicago lock box. She just repeated the information from our I-130, and my wife was just confirming it. Then she asked me how did we meet and asked me to show more pictures. We showed more pictures. Then she started confirming my information on I-485.* And I just replied with confirming it. At the end she explained me how to remove conditions on my green card after two years and took copies of our new pictures. And told me that everything looks good and hopefully I will get my green card within 3-4 weeks!!
Our whole interview took about 20 minutes!

    Hi!

My husband and I have our interview on April 10th (he is the applicant, I'm the petitioner), and I hope ours goes as smoothly as yours did! What documents did you bring with you to the interview? Other than photos and other proof of a bona fide marriage, which I believe we will be able to provide quite easily, is there anything else needed for the interview?

The reason I'm asking is because we received the interview notice with a list of documents to bring, but it seems like it's almost all been submitted already with our original application!

Thanks, and congratulations on getting your green card!

      Hi Athiel,

Thank you & Best of Luck for the interview!
We took all our orignal Ids, passports, social security, Ead, birth certificates, my wife's naturalization proof, marriage certificate and my I-94. They just want to make sure you guys have the original documents. In our case they just asked for both of our ids and my Ead.
I also took our pictures, joint lease, joint account statements, and ultility bill with both names. But officer only saw our pictures and did not ask for anything else. Just take all the original documents as indicated on the interview notice. Also take copies of your original documents just in case.
Hope your interview also goes smooth!

      Thank you

Also on March 29,2017 my case status updated to: Card being produced and will be mailed.
Later same day it updated to: Case Approved.

After one day of the interview my case status was updated.

        Congrats!!!

Out of curiosity how long did the process take from when you filed the 485 to your interview? Also, what was the time between your invitation to interview and the actual interview? I want to get a sense for how much heads up time one has before the interview.

            Hi samer03
Why did your case take longer than 4 months? As I understand it, it should be approx 3 months. Were there any special circumstances or delays?
            Thx

              Hi Nettie,

As of my understanding every case is different and timeline varies with every case. Mine took a little bit longer because of RFE. Otherwise it would've been less than 4 months.

              Thank you,

What should we do to prepare for our I-485 Interview? is there anything we need to know or typical questions that we need to know about?
