As per legal advice obtained, one can not enter as a non immigrant, with the intention to immigrate. The minimum wait before filing an application for adjustment of status after entry is 60 days, which makes the 3 months/90 days, approx 5 months. There are probably people who do this differently, under different circumstances. However, I do not want any chance of being denied and have therefore decided to apply from outside of the US through Consular Processing.
