  • Question on I-184 and I-184W

    Hello
I am bringing my wife and my newborn child to the united states. Since my child qualifies for I-184W, do I need to fill I 184w for my child. My income is below the poverty line for r people. If I fill out the I-184w for the child and I-184 for the wife, do I need to show any additional asset or show someone else's income
    Thank you

First of all, I-184 and I-184W have not been used for a very long time; it's I-864 and I-864W.

If the child qualifies for I-864W, then the child should fill out I-864W. You can help the child fill out the form, but it should be filled out from the perspective of the child (the child is the "requestor"); it's only that you can sign for the child if they are under 14. You do not need to fill out I-864 for the child in that case, and your income is not relevant for the child.

Yes, you would fill out I-864 for your wife. If your income is insufficient then you need to find a joint sponsor whose household income is sufficient.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
