Indeed it is, but one must wonder how many marriages are actually cons in and out of themselves, thus portrayed as legitimate on paper, but rather insidious from the beginning. Do not marry anyone unless you actually love that person. They deserve better and so do you. Mutual arrangements of this sort are illegal. Forget Immigration benefits for a moment, you're not taking any of that with you when you leave this earth. Marriage fraud, at least as defined under federal law and case law, is extremely rare, despite being the stuff of myth and urban legends. Sure, many marriages break down early on, but those aren't fraudulent marriages. Most of the calls to ICE's Marriage Fraud Hotline are from spurned ex-spouses and ex-lovers. Realistically, it is extremely difficult to find someone willing to engage in marriage fraud. The typical alien who seeks a "paper spouse" has little of value to offer. US Citizens in financial distress who may be inclined to do anything for a token sum of money would not be able to file an affidavit of support anyway, and they won't find a family member willing to serve as a joint sponsor for a stranger. Furthermore there would be cultural and language barriers that serve as red flags to USCIS adjudicators. At the end of the day, the couple has to present themselves for an interview, often twice taking into account the removal of conditions. The adjudicator can size them up very quickly and determine if they are a legitimate couple, in the same way we all know when our coworkers are fooling around with each other. There is a certain vibe communicated by people's body language that betrays any attempt to hide their romantic or carnal relations. If this guy is in the other Georgia, the beautiful Georgia between the Caspian and Black seas, he's got zero chance of finding a paper bride anyway. For cultural reasons, US citizen women don't have any interest in marrying strangers, except in rare situations involving small religious and ethnic groups. It may be difficult to find a girl to marry...but the opposite is quite easy.
I have seen blogs and several cases of women getting married in order to immigrate, some with clear fraud and paying for it...and guess what? They always get it...I believe this is a extremely difficult life for them and all the dreams they had are left behind. In a few years (or less) they have children and divorce is not an option anymore.
For a man to find a girl to get married only for immigration? Humpf...it will take years to find one. Still it will be easier to really look for someone you will love (even same sex)...finding a good person that you are willing to spend some time together is not that hard. The problem is that people want someone great-looking, with a lot of $$$, and hoping for the fairytale prince/princess.Comment
