  • Name change confirmation paper/letter

    Hi everyone,

So I'm new to this forum. So I was student in F-1 Visa and get married. My spouse is an naturalized US citizen.
We're filling now for my green-card, one issue the law office said is that my spouse changed her name when she was getting the naturalization certificate (changed her first name to an American name)
and they said that USCIS will need that paper/document/letter that states her name was changed, which she had it before but has lost it.

    So I have 2 questions:
    - What is that "name change document/paper/letter" called?
    - how and what she need to do to obtain a replacement/copy of that proof of name changing paper?

    Thanks for your help!

It depends where she had her name changed, where she will be able to get that information from.

If the change of name form was submitted as part of her USC application, she may be able to get a copy, but I'm not sure how you apply for that. Your lawyer should be able to advise about obtaining that information under the Freedom of Information Act.
    Not legal advice.
