  • I751 how long should it take ?

We are trying to renew my wife’s green card from 2 years (conditional reaident) to 10 years. Case active for 400 days. She already got her biometric scan but have not heard anything from USCIS. Case status says “fees were waived” what does it mean ? Her 1 year extended letter from USCIS is expiring in less than 2 months; should we make another appointment for office visit or can we call customer service to extend her conditional resident ?

She remains in permanent resident status for as long as the application is pending, but it is a good idea to make an appointment to get an I-551 stamp in her passport so she can have proof of her permanent residency (in case she needs to travel abroad or encounters a CBP checkpoint or something).

Also, she must already be past 2 years and 9 months of being a permanent resident now; if she plans to apply for naturalization, she can apply now, and that may help speed up her removal of conditions.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
