Hi I have been a silent user, but got lots of helpful information from this forum.
Now that I got my green card in my hand, I would like to share my timeline for you.
I noticed that there are not many people who fall under F2B category, so this might be helpful for someone.
I got my green card through my father who is a permanent resident. He did not apply for the citizenship because of me, although there is an alternative.
Anyways, here is my time line:
09/20/2010 I-130 filed as Unmarried child over 21 of lawful permanent resident
06/06/2012 I-130 approved
09/15/2016 Found that the priority date became current Date on Visa Bulletin using Date for Filing chart (USCIS website confirms that I can use date for filing chart)
09/30/2016 Application packet sent
10/03/2016 USCIS confirmed the receipt of the application packet. Check was cleared on the same day **EAD and AP were not needed for my case as I was in US already with student visa
10/22/2016 Biometric appointment notice received
11/10/2016 Biometric done
09/15/2016 Noticed that my local office is processing the case that filed later than my case through USCIS processing time
09/28/2017 Ombudsman case filed as well as a letter to local Congressman sent
09/29/2017 Phone inquiry about why your case is taking longer than our processing time has submitted through USCIS customer service
10/24/2017 Received response from USCIS that my case is waiting for an interview
11/1/2017 Received response from Ombudsman's office that my case is waiting for an interview
11/3/2017 Interview notice received
11/15/2017 Medical exam done again since the original one is expired
12/7/2017 Interview done - received a letter stating that my case needs further review and can take up to 120 days
12/18/2017 Green card received - no online status updated
As of 12/19, online status still says the interview is scheduled - do not rely on the online status.
As far as the interview goes, everything was smooth and easy, except that the office told me that I did not submit the latest I-20. I did submit for sure, but I handed a copy anyways at the interview. The interviewer liked when I brought copies of almost everything I have.
Questions were easy just like "Are you a terrorist?", "Have committed any crime?"," Do you have a bomb?", etc. I cackled a little and the interviewer explained that nobody would say yes to those questions but if something happens after the green card is issued, these questions are the basis that US can revoke the green card since the terrorist has lied by saying no.
The interviewer then told me that my case needs further review by the interview and the supervisor, and also needs another security check and the confirmation of visa availability. The interviewer refused to give an estimate of time.
I found that the case was approved on the next day (no online status update) when I received the actual green card.
For people out there waiting for the green card, I would say do not be panic, but be patient. I was very nervous, and called the USCIS customer number probably 20 times and visited Infopass appointments almost 10 times. Nothing will help. You will get annoyed more. However, Ombudsman office and Congressman do help.
One advice I can give - prepare your documents. Double check the expiration dates for your copy of birth certificate, health exam, your petitioner's documents, your financial sponsor's documents, etc. for your interview.
Again do not panic.
Good luck!
