Greetings all! I have a quick question that has been confusing me, and I figured it was time to turn to the internet for help. I have been scouring the forums, but can't seem to find the answer I need, so my apologies if it is buried in there and I am just not that great at searching.
My wife is from Mexico, and she has been a citizen now for 2 years. We went through her immigration process and naturalization without any issue, and now her parents have decided that they would like to apply for residency as well. They reside in Mexico and plan on continuing to do so, but it would make travel a bit easier for them, and as they advance in years it would make it easier for us to take care of them should anything ever happen (God forbid). They do have current tourist visas (in good standing) that they have been traveling with, but as I said they do reside full time in Mexico and only come to visit once or twice a year at most. My question is the following:
Which forms does my wife (as the sponsor) need to fill out for their immigration? If I am reading everything correctly, we only need to fill out the I-130 for each parent as they currently reside outside of the country. This would be MUCH cheaper than having to go through the I-485 route, I think, but I need to be sure what the total cost would be. I have found the fee for I-130 to be $535. I am sure there will be the typical $85 biometric fee somewhere in there as well. What other costs can we plan for though? If I don't need to pay for the $1,140 fee for the i-485 I will be pretty happy. After the I-130 is approved, are there any interview fees or other fees that need to be planned for? Any and all help is truly appreciated. Thank you!
