  • Filing forms process and fees

    Hi,

I know this is a silly question. So I'm applying for a green card through marriage. I'm currently on F-1 visa (student visa) and have married to an American citizen. My spouse and I have completed I-130, I-130a, I-485, I-765, I-864 and I-693 (already received and sealed from the clinic). First, does anyone know if we need to fill out any other forms for the green card application? Second, I'm really confused about how to actually file those forms. I have completed them, signed them and put them in separate envelops. Where should I file all these forms? Also, I know there are different filing fees for different forms. How do I actually pay for them? Does the post office charge me when I mail them? Do I put a personal check in each of the envelop? Or how does this work? Please help me out. Many thanks.

    Best,

    Johnny

You should also file I-131 (Advance Parole), its free and allows you to travel while GC is processing. Where you file is dependent on which state you live in.

You should file all forms together in one big envelope, mailed to the Chicago Lockbox. Group each main form (I-130, I-485, I-765, I-131) with its required supporting materials and forms with clips or something like that. Don't use staples. You should have two checks, one for $535 for I-130 and one for $1225 for I-485, clipped to the front of the respective form.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
