    Since passport is a derivative of naturalization, why is it an additional requirement for me to be able to file I-130? That's another 6-8 weeks of waiting.
    Unless I misunderstood the instructions.
    Thank you.

    Nope. You don't need a passport to file I-130. Any ONE of the following items is proof of the petitioner's US citizenship; you don't need multiple ones:

    * Birth certificate showing birth in the US, if the person is born in the US
    * A Certificate of Naturalization
    * A Certificate of Citizenship
    * A Consular Report of Birth Abroad
    * An unexpired US passport

    A copy of your Certificate of Naturalization is enough, and you can file I-130 as soon as you take the oath.

    This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
