  • INTERVIEW SOON: Do I need to update my sponsor's i-864 form AGAIN?

    Thanks in advance for answering!

So my PD has been reached and I am just awaiting my appointment letter... we have already issued 2 tax returns from 2016 and 2017 (in support of the i-864), but my attorney's assistant says 2018 is needed too at my interview time?!?

    My Questions are:

    1) Does my sponsor need a new i-864 for the upcoming interview for the 2018 tax returns?
    2) Because my sponsor didn't make enough above the poverty line this year, we got our house appraised with a solid net equity (current value - mortgage). Will this document be suffice?
    3) Would I need to get a co-sponsor?
    4) Any link to GC interviews in Canada would be great. I've heard that after the interview is given, I have to wait another 2 WEEKS to get my passport back and landing documents??

    Thanks again for the help

    1) No. It doesn't hurt to bring it but they probably won't take it. I brought an updated one and the IO basically said "we approved the one you sent, don't give me that". Bring updated tax documents, unless they'll hurt your case.
    2) Do you mean that the income has been reduced from the time you submitted the original I-864? I *think* you also need to show that you can liquidate the asset within a certain amount of time. You should be careful with that, maybe talk to a lawyer or someone with more experience in that.
    3) If your spouse does not make enough, you should get a co-sponsor. The asset calculation is very difficult and, unless it's $$$ in the bank, they don't like it.

    Good luck.
    2/20: Received at Chicago lockbox
4/04: We reviewed your biometrics and are processing your case (I-765 & I-485)
4/18: Ready to be scheduled for an interview (No notification, not updated on either site until Aug 27)
    4/19: Request to expedite EAD
    5/11: Received EAD
    6/26: Applied for Advance Parole
    8/09: Advance Parole approved
    8/29: Scheduled for Interview
    10/11: Interview
    10/12: RFE on I-130 (misplaced G28)
    10/16: Sent new G28
    10/19: Approved!

      Thanks for the reply!

      1) Great, it's not 2018 tax season yet so can't produce the taxes.

      2) Yes, it's been reduced because my spouse is self-employed. My lawyer has made a few mistakes, so that's why I'm on this board trying to make sure there won't be any more

      3) This will be tough
