I married a Canadian Citizen. I am a US citizen. I lived with him in Canada for about 5-6 months, and then had to move to NY as I bought a house and couldn't get insurance unless I lived in it. We filed the I-130 in Nov. Got the approval notice in January. I haven't sent in the Affidavit of support yet as I haven't gotten my tax return back yet. Unfortunately, I filed while living in Canada. I was granted a visitors visa through December of this year. However, when I got my paperwork about the interview with the Affidavit of support, it says I need to bring along proof of 'status' or permanent residence in Canada. However, that was nowhere in the instructions when I filed. I could get a copy of my permission to be there, but, that's not listed as an acceptable document. What am I supposed to do from here? I was just going to send in the Affidavit along with his paperwork- Dr records and all that other fun stuff they requested and just hope for the best. Any suggestions? I don't have a lawyer. Just trying to do this on my own. On the bright side, neither of us have criminal records, or children or really any other complicating factor. I just wondered whether I should just go to the interview hoping they'll accept my document or if I should just get it over with. When I called I just got the ole "Sorry Maam I can't pre-review your case".
