  • why waiting period too long?

    hello everyone,
I have a friend whose father has filed a permanant visa petition for him and has been approved. His problem is that, since the approval, he has been waiting for nearly 2 years now for him to be called for an immigrant visa interview. Also about 4 months ago, his father(who lives in the US) ordered him to submit to him a police report which he complied. His problem is, does it take such a longer period for the immigrant interview to be scheduled? if yes why, and if not how long does it take?

Depending on which cuntry hes from..........that is one of the imp determining factors.................2 years for very populated countries is not unusual. Thees no way to know how long it will take..........they will contact him with n ainterview date

It is not the question of which country you are from (not so much at least), the question is in the priority and availability of visas for that particular category. For some categories there are a lot of visas available - close relatives, those include spouses and under age children, other categories - (and I am assuming that you friend falls here since he is over 21 already) it takes longer, 2 years for a petition for a child who is over 21 is not a long wait at all, it usually takes much longer. You can go to www.uscis.gov and learn all about categories and see where your friend falls and you will be able to determine how long the wait will be

        Re:

as far as I know, the best way to find out about priority date is to go to travel.state.gov and search for Visa bulletin link. on the current bulletin, it will tell you what date is being processed right now. first of all, if your friend is under 21, then he/she would be qualified for certain benefits. BUT if he/she is over 21, then the waiting period will grow even if his father is or becomes a US citizen. I believe the current date is 2001.
