I have applied as a citizen's daughter, the processing dates for this is jan 2003 just now, my mother is a legal alien and the processing dates for that are feb 2005. can i reapply through my mother so that it will be faster? i dont get why applying as a citizens child is slower. also is there anyway you can go live in the states while your application is being processed. work visa is not an option, neither is the 3 month visitors. all of my family are in the states, i just dont get why this is such a pain for me to get over there. there must be something i can do. my mother is sick, i have to be there to help her.

Your mothers application is much slower so your eprobably not reading the processing times properly.

I think you will find you are wrong.
the processing dates for alien relative over 21 is faster than the petition for citizen relative over 21. I am reading the form correctly.

i also need to know if i can reapply as an alien child, would this be a good idea to make it faster? my mother is an alien and my stepfather is a citizen, i have applied under my stepfather, it seems the processing dates for that are 3 years longer, i didnt realise this when i applied

You need to look at the state dept visa bulletin( and not the service center
processing times) which gives you the priority dates for all categories.
Priority dates include all the time I-130 processing time + visa number wait for that category while the service center only gives you the I-130 processing time.
These are the categories you filed under, right?
First: Unmarried Sons and Daughters of Citizens:
Second B. Unmarried Sons and Daughters (21 years of age or older) of PRs
And this is the most recent visa bulletin from the state dept(only your categories)
OTHER CHINA INDIA MEXICO PHILIPP-INES
1st 22APR01 22APR01 22APR01 01JAN94 15DEC91
2B 08APR97 08APR97 08APR97 01MAR92 08SEP96Last edited by peace; 01-03-2007, 12:39 PM.

hi Peace, thanks for your reply, i am not too sure i understand you though. what is it i would look at to get a good estimate of time its going to take for me to get over there? i need to know, i am 30 now and i cant hang about. the problem is that i dont really think i would be able to get in under the employment based category as i dont have a degree. i find the uscis website is very hard to decipher. I am based in the UK also.
thanks

I need to know
*your country of birth.
*What are the dates both the petitions were filed?
Anyway, just forget the service center and look at the visa bulletin because that is what matters.
A visa bulletin is issued every month by the state department announcing
priority dates for each category. If your petition was received by USCIS
on or before the priority dates listed for your category, your visa number is available for that category and the embassy should contact you.
However, priority dates change every month due to processing backlog
but you can still get a rough idea of how much waiting time you have for your category.
If you look at the visa bulletin numbers in my last post,
all countries except mexico and phillipines have a priority date of
22 april 01 for F-1 category
and 08 April 97 for F2B category.
So, if your country of birth is other than mexico or phillipines, you are looking at a wait time of approx 6 years for your dad's petition and approx 10 years for your mom's from the day USICS received each petition.
