  • Interview in Jan 2007 second week, cannot get CanadianPolice clearance at shortnotice

    Hi there
This goes for all the people who have gone through this and all the experts who know this......

My family is in usa (papa, mom and brother) for last 6 yrs, mom and bro are now citizens
I am under f1 category now and am scheduled for interview in the second week for Jan
So finally the moment has arrived after a waiting of 6 ys

By the way i am 29 yrs unmarried

I have been to canada on student permit for 1 yr between 2003-2004 and also had a visitor visa to usa so made family visits from there
I have all the documents ready but i do not have canadian police clearence certificate for the reasons

    1. i did not know till i recieved packet 4 which i got on 20th dec and i only have 15 days approx for interview
    2. I dont have a canadian visa anymore so that i can fly down there and get the certificate

i read this link from your site which details about the formality of getting the name check certificate which should be good enough
    /police-certificates-for-usa-immigrant-visa/

I called the RCMP toronto office at the phone no mentioned on the link and talked to a lady and i requested if i can get a name check certificate
i can send my canadian licence and other proof of stay through fax or through my friends living there and her answer was that i have to come in person to get the name check done
And if i go for finger printing ( which according to your site is only needed on Canadian immigration) it will take 6 months may be more

I asked her then what should i do and she told to call the american consulate and ask them what to do now....
GUYS i want to be with family in usa as 6 yrs is a long wait,
On american embassy site i see an enquiry number from newdelhi and that is for Foreign countries police certificates enquiry

    My options are

    1. i call them first and if they say i need the finger printing then wait for 6 more months....
    2. i go directly to interview and try and explain the point to the officer that at such a short notice nothing could have been done

Please guide me what option to go for....
I wd appriciate if some people can reply to this who have faced similar situation
Also if there is someone who was on student visa to canada and now immigrated to usa and wasnot even asked about the Canadian clearence please share your experience

For me the most imp interview of my life is this as i will get a chance to be with my family for good if i clear this so please wish me luck and provide me with whatever guidance you all can...
i am looking forward to it and i am sorry for a long post

    Hi experts -

My father in law has his interview appointment for family based green card at the Chennai (India) consulate on September 28th. He has his police clearance certificate from the local police in India - but during the 60's (1966-1967 to be exact) he lived in Vancouver, BC. He has sumbitted a request to get a police clearance from Canada but apparently the backlog for that is about 5 months so its unlikely that he will get it in time for his interview. Traveling to Canada to get it from the local police (can be done instantly in person) is cost prohibitive for him.

My question - what are the odds that the missing Police Clearnace for a year he lived in Canada will seriously negatively impact his approal? Is there really a high risk that his gc will be denied because of the one year he spent in Canada nearly 40 years ago that he does not have a PCC for?

We could use any and all advice on how to deal with this situation.

Contact the Vancouver City Police for a criminal record check. They should be able to do a name based check. In the process they will scan not only the Vancouver files, but also the entire Canada police records.

If for some reason Vancouver Police do not help you, try using the Winnipeg Police. I have gotten name based checks from them in the past in less than a week. They mailed it directly to me without every seeing them in person. It cost C$15.

Gunt, Wow thanks for that post when I saw it I had 8 days untill my interview, I faxed the forms to the Saskatoon Police (thats were I lived) including a form giving them permisson to release the Police check to my friend, They did so within 6 hrs of them receiving my fax, My friend then couried the letter to me and I received it one day before the interview. The RCMP is still saying it takes 150 working days for them to do it whih is appalling. If any one would like some more info on how to do this please do not hesiate to contact me just send me a PM, Once again Gunt Thankyou

Thanks Gunt. I took your advice and sent the request in to Winnipeg Police. They have the forms readily available on their website. Vancouver City Police has a similar facility but they are a lot more expensive ($55 vs. $16) and they require the applicants fingerprints to be sent in (even though its not really required for a name check).

I received the certificate for them today - exactly 3 weeks after I sent it in.

I Received the actual RCMP Clearance 75 Days after they received it but after my interview So Gunts post saved me , Once again thankyou

          Police Clearance

          Hi,

Can you answer me something? My question is: If that applies to everybody, the police clereance that the FBI does goes to the native country to check files there, or they check according to the US if you have done something criminal here in the states?

My question is because that could impact on delays, and it seems sometimes that all the immigration stuff takes for ever and I don't want to know that it will get to more with this.

          Thanks.
