Options of re-entry without AP

My relatives were in the US when I filed I-130 together with I-485 for my relatives. I didn't apply for an AP. There was an emergency and my relatives had to leave without time to get an travel doc from INS. What are their options of continuing processing of this application? If they cannot continue, can we file a new application? Please advise.

They could face the problem that they won't be able to enter to the country, and immigration sometimes take as abandoned your chance if you do that.

But still, if that happened you have to file everything again.

But the problem will be that they will be in their country instead of here.

Is there anything that can be done to try coming back to the US and pursue the current case, because they already have an interview scheduled soon?

Unfortunately INS is pretty unforgiving in this case and your relatives forfeited their petition, you have to start over again, and go with out-of-country processing
