Hopefully the questions in this post would be easier than my last post
I'm a US citizen sponsoring my wife to get a green card, and my dad is a joint sponsor with me.
We're filling out I-864 for him, and we're up to question 21d, which is a bit confusing.
Besides me, he's got 2 other kids from another marriage, aged at around 12 years old.
The instructions for 21d are as follows:
Enter the number of unmarried children you have who are under age 21, even if you do not have legal custody of these children. You may exclude any unmarried children under 21, if these children have reached majority under the law of their place of domicile and you do not claim them as dependents on your income tax returns.
What does it mean for a child to have reached "majority"? Is it the same as "adulthood"?
If my dad is not claiming them as dependents, do they ALSO have to have reached "majority" for them to be excluded from I-864?
If the above 2 conditions are true, does it mean that my dad would need to include them in I-864 no matter what?
Another unrelated question on I-864 is regarding #25: does "the most recent 3 tax years" mean "2006, 2005, 2004", or "2005, 2004, 2003"?
Thanks for your answers!
Regards,
Jack
