Marriage to a USC AOS Application Timeline:

    December 17, 2006 - Marriage to USC
January 23, 2007 - I-485/I-130/I-765/I-131 Application Pack Sent to Chicago Lockbox
January 25, 2007 - Receipt date for all 4 Applications

    February 01, 2007 - Biometrics Notice Date
    February 14, 2007 - Interview Notice Date
February 15, 2007 - Biometrics done at Gardena, CA ASC
April 03, 2007 - Interview at Los Angeles DO and AOS Approved!!!!!

My interview was scheduled at 12.25pm at Los Angeles DO, my spouse and I arrived really early so we decided to have an early lunch at the mall just across the street. Going inside the federal building is like being double-checked for being a terrorist so guys, you've been warned, try to avoid bringing any metallic stuff with you, otherwise people behind you would be cursing you for all you know!hehehe

Anyways, we were there at the lobby at 11.45am and the guard was really friendly and was joking with my spouse so we felt like really it is our lucky day. Then around 12.10pm he called out my name and asked me if we rather stick around or come back after 30 mins as the officer who will interview us will be having his lunch. So we just stayed there.

Then at 12.45pm, an elderly gentleman called out our name and told us to follow him in his office. He swore us to tell the truth then let us have our seats. Then he asked if we have our passports, driver's license, EAD..and I gave him my passport as I did not receive any EAD yet, and my spouse gave her DL. Then he asked for joint documents like bank statement and insurance, then he went out to make copies of the passport and DL. When he came back he asked for the copies of the bank statement and any proof of our cohabitation. I gave him the statement, invoice of our wedding ring, an affidavit from my aunt wherein whose apartment we're living at, and an affidavit from a friend. We also gave him a copy of our 2006 joint tax return. The latter is the only document that he literally looked at and the rest he just filed in our folder.

Then questions like our birthdays, name of parents, where they are now, my spouse's work, my work back at home, if I have been married before, then asked for some photos. Then he asked some questions from the I-485 application like if I have been arrested, involved in drugs and prostitution, etc.
Then he asked if I am aware of the implications if the marriage is a fraud, I said I believe it is imprisonment and we will be penalized. He said he's just reminding us. I just smiled..nervously..hehehe

Then he took out his stamp, and stamped a date on 2 papers and filled it up with my details and alien number. He handed it to me congratulating me that effective today I am now a permanent resident of the US, however, since I've been married less than 2 years, it is conditional. The other sheet of paper had the details on how to remove the conditions 90 days prior the 2nd anniversary of my residency. At this point I was just so ecstatic and my spouse and I can't stop thanking the gentleman!!I did say this is the best birthday gift I've received as exactly a week from now it is my birthday! He said I'd receive the green card within 90 days but he admitted it could be earlier than that. Hopefully before the month ends I can have it, I can't wait to visit my friends in the UK!!!

So that's it guys, my whole AOS journey took less than 3 months!!!I wanna thank everyone who have been posting on this site, especially Flavia and KK, you've been my support throughout this process..To everyone still working on it, the best of luck!!!

            GC received in the mail!!!

I would just like to inform you guys that on Saturday, April 14th, I received 3 envelopes in the mail from USCIS...the elusive permanent resident card, and surprisingly, my work authorization card and advance parole document..with the GC at hand, these last 2 documents are no longer needed..

needless to say, I am very much impressed and pleased with the way USCIS processed my application. I just am so ecstatic now that I am indeed, a legal permanent resident of the US

                  Hi

Congratulations on your approval! We have quite a similar situation. I'll be having my interview tomorrow (june 7) after filing my I-485 last march. I was married to a USC last December. I think my husband and i are pretty much ready for the interview, only thing is we don't know what to expect. But we prayed really hard for this and we believe everything we'll be alright. As long as everything is legitimate, then there's nothing to worry about, right? By the way, my birthday is also a few weeks from now so I guess this will be the best birthday for me too! Thank you for sharing your experience. I learned a lot from this and I'm really hopeful now, knowing that the immigration may be strict, but there are some who are kindhearted. God bless you and your wife and congratulations again.
