  • Removal of conditions-I-751

    Hi,
I married a U.S. citizen and came to this country in august 2005.My conditional green card expires in august 2007. I shall be jointly filing with my husband for removal of conditions 90 days before the expiry of my green card.I am planning to a short visit outside the U.S.for a month just after filing.
I shall be back before my conditional card expires. Do I need to carry any additional documents with me during my travel? Is my conditional card enough for me to reenter?
What will be my position regarding work and travel after my card expires and till i get the permanent 10yr card?
A quick reply would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

You do not have to carry any additional documents, you should get permanent card before your conditional one expires, that is why you have to file on that 90th day, otherwise you will be illegal

Chances are you will not have your 10yr. green card prior to the 1st one expiring. It can take up to a year, and even longer if an interview is required. However, shortly after you submit your I-751 you will receive a receipt stating that your work and travel is extended one year after your green card's exp. date. You should keep this document with you as well as your green card. And you will not be considered illegal.
