Filing after marriage to US citizen - attorney needed?

Hi,

I am a French citizen and got married to my boyfriend of three years, who is an American citizen. I entered the US with a visa waiver, but he finally decided to propose so we got married shortly before the expiration of my 90 days stay. Now we are ready to file for an adjustment of status, we wanted to do it through an attorney but all the attorneys we consulted with charge exhorbitant fees... $1500 minimum, just to fill in a few forms!

Has anyone here successfully filed their case themselves? Is it feasible to process your application yourself or is it too complicated to do it without the help of the attorney?

Nina, every1 u see hanging around here mostly gets their stuff done themselves. It's fairly easy, unless you have a complicated case. Immihelp itself has 'sample forms' that you can follow. IT IS EASY...really. try it. don't get the attorney...waste of $.

Thanks a lot, this is the second response I get assuring me that it is easy enough to do myself, so I will give it a very meticulous try!

I can't believe the attorney wanted to charge us $1500 just to walk us through the forms
