I have been stressing these past few days for my AOS interview, which finally took place awhile ago in San Francisco around 1:30pm. This website has been a great help for all the preparations for my interview. In return, i'll share our experience to help other people who may need this in the future.
DEC 30, 2006- Married to a USC
MAR 21, 2007 - Mailed our I-485, I-130, I-765 Apllication to Chicago
MAR 25, 2007 - Receipt date of application
MAR 30, 2007 - Notice of Action Received (for all applications)
APR 12, 2007 - Biometrics Appointment Schedule received
APR 17, 2007 - AOS interview Schedule Received
MAY 10, 2007 - Biometrics Taken
JUN 7, 2007 - Interview in San Francsico (1:15pm- but my name was called around 1:30pm)
JUN 7, 2007 - Checked EAD status in uscis website. Card production ordered.
Here are some of the questions I remember:
-Immigration officer first had both my husband and I stand up and swear to tell the truth
-asked us to take out documents like passport, DL, birth certificates, 2006 Income tax, I-94, H4, F-1 documents
-asked my full name
-my birthdate
-my husband's birthday
-my address
-any other names i used (maiden name)
-my parent's first names
-where my parents live now
-current status of my parents
-when was the last time i entered US and our status (we came here as tourists and then my dad was granted a work permit so we, his dependents were granted H4 visa but since I was about to turn 21, I changed to student visa after a year)
-he then asked if i ever worked here
-my school status
-asked me to show him my I-20
-asked if I was driving
-asked about the places where i lived within 5 years and who are living there now
-he then asked about our relationship
-How i met my husband
-How often do we see each other for the last 5 months
-he asked my husband where he lives
-when did we start dating
-If there was an engagement and when was it
-if his parents were both USC
-Place of marriage
-if his parents know me
-if both of our parents were related to each other in any way
-if his parents like me
-who's living with us
-asked if i was included in my husband's benefits in his job and asked us to show him any document
then he told us about how the affidavit of support is such a super contract that holds my husband liable for anything that may happen in the future.
Then he asked us to show him wedding photos or other photos of our time together - which i have piled in a photo album for a more presentable manner
He then asked a couple of questions about the pictures like who were those people, where it was taken and then he took some that he kept in their file.
-he asked if we ever travelled together - when and where (showed him a picture of us together in hawaii with a hula girl, which he took)
-asked questions about my i-485 apllication if i ever committed crime or was engaged in drug use or trafficking and if ever i was given public assistance by the government. I tripped on this part when he asked if i will ask help from the government in the future i said no, then immediately asked why not? i said, oh probably if i'll be needing help for my school (i was talking about school loans) then he paused for a minute. I got scared that it may have affected my interview, but he didn't say anything after that.
-he checked if my phone number is correct and asked my husband's cellphone number, he also asked if we were under the same plan, which in our case was not
-then he informed us about the conditional green card and how i can aplly for citizenship after 3 years since i'm married to a USC.
- he then printed something from the computer and while waiting for it to come out, he asked my husband if i know how to cook (my husband proudly said "she cooks really good" and the officer smiled)
-he also asked me if my husband cooks and who else in the house cooks
then he had me sign on a sheet of paper and told us to wait in the mail for their decision on our case
He then gave me 2 sheets of paper which indicates that our case has to be further reviewed (i guess for background check) and in the other sheet informing us about how to remove the conditional green card if our case will be approved. then that's it. we thanked him and we left the office.
On our way home, I kept on going over in my mind all the questions he asked and somehow, i felt that the interview was okay. I just feel bothered that we weren't granted at once. However, my husband and i are still hoping and praying it'll be approved SOON. Hope this helps other applicants. Thanks to those who gave us guidance and tips about our interview. God bless.
