  • Medical Examination question

My sister and I are US citizens and would like to apply for my mother's GC. My mom is 60 years old and is currently staying with me in the US for a couple of months before she can go to my sister's place and apply for the GC.

    My questions are:

    - Can i get a medical examination done now by a USCIS approved civil surgeon in my area though we will be applying for her GC at a later date in a different state?

    - Given her age, what vaccinations does she require? I gathered from immihelp forums that she can avoid getting new vaccinations administered if she has records from her doctor that prove that she has taken them in the past.

What type of record is required? Will a letter listing the vaccinations do or is anything more needed? I would appreciate it if someone on this forum can let me know the format of this record and also list the vaccinations that are required.

Though this topic has been dicussed earlier, I could not get all the info from the old posts.Thank you for your help in advance!

well yes u can do the med exam now in any area by a USCIS approved doctor....the med exam is good for one year...also make sure that u get a sealed envelope from the doctor so that u can send it to the USCIS..

regarding vaccination.....well if u can get the record from ur back home family doctor on his letter head duly stamped n signed by that doctor is good as I did that myself......she needs to have varicella, tetnus n depthria atleast one dose in the last 10 yr......the other vaccination r good if she has received them anytime like MMR n other bull crap......

the rest of the exam is easy...they will take blood for HIV n syphillis n will place a TB skin test...if that comes reactive then she will be sent for chest XRay.....

let me know if u have more Qs as I just did my exam...

    Good luck

Thank you for your prompt reply. I also wanted to know what you meant by
the other vaccinations r good if she has received them anytime like MMR n other bull crap.......
I will appreciate it if you can elaborate on the list of vaccinations so that I can double check to make sure that she has had them in the past for our family doc to give the letter.

How much did you spend totally for the examination? do you have an insurance and if so, did it cover a portion of the total fees?

      Thanks for your help!

is she has insurance then she can get all the vaccinations done at public health department of your county or regular physician. Most vaccines are covered by insurance as part of wellness philosophy. Dont mention immigration.

Once you get everything done get records and go to the USCIS approved doctor.

Going this route meant that several of my friends just spent $15 ot of pocket versus $200-600 some of the others spent.

To find a list of complete vaccination required google is your friend
