  • Help!!! Application sent to the wrong mailing address!!

    Hi,

Iam an USC and have applied for my mothers GC. I mailed all the necessary applications(i-130,i-485 etc.) . After having called the USCIS for the mailing address(as I was confused) i was advised to send it to the local USCIS office. So i mailed it out on the July19th. and it was received on the 20th. I have the USPS confirmation. After not having heard from the USCIS....i had been calling them and they told me to wait and only last week was told that i should have sent it to the chicago lockbox facility!!!. After having gone thru your forum discussions it does say chicago lockbox facility....wonder why the USCIS customer service gave me wrong info. Anyway can anyone please tell me what will happen or has anyone had a similar experience ? Do they re-route the application or return it...... . Any info will be helpful. Thanks!

Either they (the local office) will:

    1) Send it to chicago, it may not have arrived in time (before Jul 30) and you would have to pay the new fees, so they (chicago) will send it back to you and you must file again (with the new fees).

    2) Sent it to chicago, it arrives in time and they will process it and send you a receipt at some point.

    3) Send it back to you, it got lost in the mail. You will have to file again, to the right address and pay the new fees.

    4) Send it back to you, you will receive it at some point and have to re-file, this time to the right address and pay the new fees.

Thanks for your prompt reply.Really appreciate it.
Based on your answers I had another question....would sending proof of having mailed the application before 30th. july make them waive the new fees while re-sending the application.
How long does it typically take before I receive the application back and how long should I wait?
Based on your experience dealing with these issues what is the common outcome with this issue?

      Thanks!

There is not an "usual" outcome... you will have to wait and see.

But I doubt that if it did not reach the Chicago Lockbox in time, you will be allowed to pay the "old" fees.

Thank You!. Guess just have to wait and hope for the best.

Should I wait for the 90 days to pass (Oct.18th.) before calling USCIS again and if so what should I do next?

I say give it 60 days and make an infopass to your local district office: http://infopass.uscis.gov/

Ask about it, if they can not tell you anything... file the forms again, pay the new fees (stop payment on the other checks) and send it all to the Chicago Lockbox.
