Dear Sir/Madam ,
I am a citizen of the
United Kingdom . On May 30th I travelled to the US on the visa waiver
program , as I was visiting my American girlfriend and staying with her
family . However , since then , my girlfriend has become my fiance and we
are going to be married on August 10th . The return ticket which I
travelled to the US on (and which my visa waiver has recorded) states that
I must return on August 15th . My fiance would like me to stay however .
We feel that the best course of action after the wedding would be to apply
for permanent residency . But I only have 5 days after the wedding . Will
I be allowed to stay in the United States while I undergo a change of
status ? Or will I have to return to the UK and apply for permanent
residency from there ?
I would appreciate any assistance you could give me .
