Re-emigration through daughter

I had to allow my green card to lapse in the 1980's due ot family reasons - will this jeopardise any future application for residence ?

Also - my daughter is a US citizen , can she complete the sponsorship forms for myself and my wife in the UK or will she have to move ot he USA first ?

No, lapse of green card should not be a problem. Save green card and related papers. Be prepared to turn in green card in order to obtain new green card.
Does your daughter have a US passport and US birth cretificate? If not get both at once.
She can file forms in UK for parents of US citizen. However, your daughter may have to reside in USA for one year but I can suggest after receipt of all details.
