A non-immigrant (visitor) visa possible while an immigrant visa is applied for?

Is it possible for someone to apply and get a visitor visa while their permanent residence application (immigrant visa) is in the process? (Meaning it has already been applied for). I can't find that information on the state department or the consulate websites.

It's possible but ..

Yes, it's possible and people do it sometimes.

However, the moment you write that an immigration petition if filed for the person, the chances of getting a visitor visa become slim.

In other words, it's not a good idea unless of course, there's an urgency.
