sponsoring a relative

Hello,
I am a US citizen getting ready to sponsor my brother to come to US permanently. Have been tempted to ask if it is possible for my brother to apply for assistance once he is here or will public assistance be denied because I am his sponsor?

First, it will take 12 to 13 years before he can come here.
Second, he can't apply for any public assistance because you are his sponsor.
